Endless Opportunities with DGR

As always, the Magic Millions Yearling Sale is a great way to start the new year off and I was delighted to secure five yearlings for DGR during the Book 1 session.

These individuals all passed our rigorous checks and criteria with flying colours and it was great to conclude the sale with a mix of yearlings bred to get up and run and race as top three-year-olds and beyond.

The first purchase of the sale was Lot 200, a beautifully bred filly by Champion 2YO Sire Extreme Choice from a two-year-old winning Fastnet Rock mare.

She will join Extreme Choice’s best daughter, She’s Extreme in Anthony Cummings stable at Randwick.

Lot 322, a colt from the first crop by G1 Rosehill Guineas-winning So You Think stallion D’Argento was a must-have for us. He is reminiscent of many of the top classic and staying horses I purchased for Bart Cummings and will be trained by his former foreman Matthew Smith.

With the riches of the lucrative Magic Millions bonus scheme increasing again this year, Chris Anderson and I were on the hunt for a horse with which we could target this series.

We struck gold when securing Lot 433, a colt by 2YO Group-winning first season sire Strasbourg from the stakes-winning two-year-old, Strykum.

Justify is a stallion that I have been following with keen interest, so I was pleased to purchase Lot 721, a colt from the two-year-old winning Lonhro mare, Childhood (USA). This colt really appealed to John Sargent and I as a promising classic type and presented as an excellent physical with a pedigree page to match.

We finished the sale on a high with the purchase of Lot 774 from Arrowfield Stud, a colt by Champion 3YO The Autumn Sun from a Group producing mare. This colt was hard to fault and represented excellent buying. He will have a bright future ahead under the training guidance of Chris Anderson.
