A lasting legacy; Fireburn

Fireburn

The Late Dato’ Tan Chin Nam had the desire for an ongoing legacy of his racing and breeding activities through his Think Big Stud. That legacy made another milestone when a mare bred and raced by Think Big Stud became the dam of the world’s richest 2yo race on grass; Golden Slipper Gr1 winner “Fireburn”.

In fact, Dato’ and Think Big Stud’s legacy into Fireburn goes back three generations. The Late Dato’ Tan Chin Nam (Think Big Stud) raced Fireburn’s third Dam DANARANI along with long time friend Ananda Krishnan.

DGR bought her as a yearling from the first cop by Danehill for $50,000 from Segenhoe Stud. Danarani went on to win the Flight Stakes Gr1, Tea Rose Gr2 (now Gr1), Furious S LR and was 2nd in the Thousand Guineas Gr1 etc, in 1994.

Dato’ and Krishnan then bred the second dam Zahani and in an internal “mare swapping”, Think Big Stud became Zahani’s sole owner to breed Mull Over at their property in the Southern Highlands. Mull Over is sired by Think Big Stud’s own “Hall of Famer”, the mighty So You Think.

That mare” Mull Over” was sold on after racing as part of the restructuring of Dato’s estate for a bargain $22,000 though Lime Country Thoroughbreds to renowned Bloodstock Agent and Syndicate Manager Louis Mihalyka of Laurel Oak Bloodstock.

Louis then bred Fireburn, harnessing his own stallion interest Rebel Dane.

So You Think himself continues to power on in the premium stallion ranks, and those investing in his daughters can feel confident they are also buying into a blossoming broodmare sire along with his established recognition as a sire.

DGR has a final interest left in a regal So You Think filly purchased from Karaka; click here to find out more.
