The way for punters to make a Profit at Doomben
make a Profit at Doomben

Profit hasn’t won consecutive races since bursting on to the scene in 2019, but trainer Chris Anderson feels the gelding who wears the famous colours carried by champions like Saintly and So You Think can achieve the feat on Saturday at Doomben.
Aided by what was described by the racecaller as a “12 out of 10 ride” from apprentice Kyle Wilson-Taylor who took off before the corner, Profit won by more than two lengths over 1600m in the metropolitan meeting on the Sunshine Coast on January 29.
Five-year-old Profit rises in class to an Open Handicap on Saturday but will carry less weight with Wilson-Taylor’s claim ensuring he will carry 2.5kg less than when winning on the coast.
The blinkers coming off last start – along with a canny ride from Wilson-Taylor – proved to be the winning moves.
Anderson is convinced that Profit, who wears the yellow, black and white colours of the late Dato Tan Chin Nam’s Think Big Stud, can go on with it as the $4 favourite in the 1630m Open Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.
“This horse is no superstar but he’s got a bit of talent,” Anderson said.
“The blinkers came off last time and that was always going to be the mystery, but his work has been super without them.
“Kyle Wilson-Taylor was going to be a hero or a villain last time, if they got to him late then the punters would have been up in arms saying what was he doing.
“But he made a split second decision and it proved to be the right one.
“He‘s a talented kid and it looks like he’s got a really bright future.
“This is a harder race for Profit, but he comes back in weight.
“I’m hoping up in grade, down in weight, it will actually put him in good stead.”
