Good Idea to target Cup repeat
Cup repeat
20 January 2022
Good Idea (So You Think) will kick off a preparation that will see him bid to retain the Adelaide Cup (Gr 2, 3200m) crown he won in March last year when he runs in the Benchmark 100 Handicap (2500m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
A winner of six races from 45 starts, the seven-year-old has not returned to the winner’s enclosure in nine starts since that Group 2 triumph, but has recorded four placed efforts, including in last month’s Pakenham Cup (Listed, 2500m). Last time out he finished fourth carrying 60 kilograms in the Bagot Handicap (Listed, 2800m), and on Saturday he drops to 58 kilograms at Moonee Valley.
“There hasn’t been a top weight win that race in 20 years, so he had a bit against him,” trainer Phillip Stokes said. “I think the horse ran enormous, but he had too much weight. This is a little easier and he’ll run well.”
Good Idea, is a home bred out of Group 1-winning mare Faint Perfume (Shamardal), who races for the Estate of the late Dato’ Tan Chin Nam and is managed by DGR’s Duncan Ramage.
