DGR back at Karaka
5 February 2023
New Zealand Bloodstock’s Karaka Yearling Sale is always a highlight on the sales calendar and it was great to be back following a Covid-induced hiatus.
While the weather played havoc on inspections, I was impressed with the quality of yearlings on offer and rapt to walk away with the two colts I wanted.
Pencarrow Stud’s Eminent colt (Lot 287) was hands down one of the best moving horses on the complex and I was delighted to secure him for $140,000 in conjunction with Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr.
He profiles as a promising Derby, Caulfield and Melbourne Cups horse and his pedigree, constitution and world-class nursery gives us every confidence moving forward.
The progeny of international sire Almanzor have hit the ground running. He has sired a VRC Derby and Karaka 2YO Millions winner from his first crop, so I was eager to buy another one for DGR.
Cambridge Stud’s Almanzor colt from Our Drahma Queen (Lot 400) was a must-have for us. Plenty is happening in his immediate family with him being a half-brother to two and three-year-old stakes winner Diss Is Dramatic, plus G3 ATC Carbine Club Stakes placegetter Cap Estel.
John Thompson and I joined forces to secure him for $180,000 and we look forward to continuing our successful union together.
All enquiries are welcomed, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch regarding ownership opportunities in these colts.
I look forward to attending next week’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. I will be purchasing yearlings that suit a variety of budgets and am available to inspect and buy yearlings outright or for syndication.
