With the highly anticipated Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale all parcelled up, I’m delighted to share that I purchased five exceptional yearlings at great value in the market for DGR’s associate owners to race with leading trainers throughout Australia.

Despite testing global circumstances, the sale remained extremely buoyant. Records were broken in both Book 1 and Book 2, resulting in the sale becoming the highest-grossing yearling sale in Southern Hemisphere history.

I was fortunate to attend the sale (which came at the cost of having to quarantine) however, the quality of yearlings I secured well and truly made up for the inconvenience.

The first of my purchases was Lot 443, a robust and speedy style of colt from the first Southern Hemisphere crop by Coolmore Stud’s Caravaggio. Bought from Lime Country Thoroughbreds, my final bid was called at $170,000. We look forward to racing him with top Sydney trainer Anthony Cummings.

Shortly after making my first advance, I secured Lot 465. Knocked down for $100,000, he’s a very athletic colt by So You Think and was purchased from leading nursery Mill Park Stud. Phillip Stokes will train him from his Melbourne base.

Next up was Lot 634, an impeccably put together colt by So You Think out of a young Exceed and Excel mare. Purchased from Tyreel’s draft, he represented excellent buying at $120,000 and will head to the stable of John Sargent.

A filly that proved to be very popular was Lot 697. She is bred on the same cross as Group One winner’s Arcadia Queen, Regal Power and Levendi, being by Pierro out of a Redoute’s Choice mare. My high opinion of her was shared by many at the complex and I was approached to sell her to trainers post-sale on multiple occasions.

She was knocked down to DGR for $150,000 from Baramul’s draft and will be trained by Chris Anderson at Eagle Farm.

My final purchase of the sale was Lot 1018, a strapping colt by All Too Hard. We waited patiently deep into Sunday to make our only attempt of the day with a “don’t miss” instruction on this colt. He’s just a super athlete and proved very popular with the buying bench.

He was bought from Cressfield’s draft for $170,000 and like the Pierro filly, will be trained by Chris Anderson.

Some ownership opportunities remain in these yearlings so if you would like more information, please click here to view them in our Current Offers section or get in touch with me directly at dgr@dgrracing.com.au or +61 418 969 740

I’m thoroughly looking forward to the upcoming Karaka Yearling Sale which kicks off this Sunday (24th of Jan). The sale has proved to be a happy hunting ground for me in the past with Group One winners from the 1990’s like three-time G1 winner Catalan Opening to more recent times of So You Think, Norzita and First Seal purchased from the sale.

Please feel free to make contact if you have any interest at Karaka.

Best wishes,
Duncan
