Trained by John Sargent, Royal Randwick
A quality colt from the first crop of multiple Group 1 winner Artorius, out of the winning So You Think mare Discreet Charm. Successful over 1300 metres, his dam is impeccably related, being a half-sister to Group 1 sire Vanbrugh and stakes placegetter South of Houston.
Offered as Lot 221 by Attunga Stud, he represented excellent value when secured for $120,000 at the 2026 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Artorius was an elite racehorse across multiple seasons. A brilliant two-year-old, he announced himself on the world stage with victory in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes, before returning at three to record a series of high-class Group 1 performances. These included a third to Anamoe in the G1 Caulfield Guineas and a third to Home Affairs in the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, prior to an international campaign that saw him place third in both the G1 Platinum Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and the G1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket.
At four, Artorius returned at the top of his game, capturing the G1 Canterbury Stakes and reaffirming his class at the highest level.
Further strengthening his credentials, Artorius is a full brother to the progressive three-year-old Sixties, winner of the G3 Ming Dynasty Handicap and a leading contender for the upcoming G1 Australian Guineas. Read more here.
This colt also benefits from the influence of emerging broodmare sire So You Think, whose daughters have already produced elite performers, including Golden Slipper winner Fireburn, French Group 1 winner Puchkine, and Group winners Rivellino, Ninja, Caroline Street, etc.
Highly rated on Duncan’s rigorous selection criteria, this colt will be given every opportunity to succeed in the stable of John Sargent.
Duncan's Comments
“We have never been shy about buying quality individuals by first-crop sires, having enjoyed subsequent Group 1 success from the debut crops of Danehill and High Chaparral in particular. When we found this very athletic individual by the successful, globe-trotting Group 1 winner Artorius at a very reasonable price, it was easy to get involved with another first-crop sire. In this case, the pedigree is further strengthened through his dam, a So You Think mare, whose daughters as broodmares have already produced a Golden Slipper winner in Fireburn (by Rebel Dane) and a French Group 1 winner in the Prix Jean Prat.”
