Anyone can go to auction with a big budget to spend and increase their likelihood of attaining Group 1 success. At DGR, we have repeatedly sourced top class racehorses at a sale price below the auction average. We respect the needs of clients while realising their lifelong dreams.

We have bought and managed horses to win Australia’s most iconic Group 1 races. Our clients have won with three-year-olds in the Spring and Autumn classics, right up to the Melbourne Cup. Our imprint on horse racing can be seen in the history-making champions bought by us.

DGR Champions

So You Think was bought by DGR for NZD$110,000 at the Karaka Premier Yearling Sale in 2008. His targets were long-term, but the colt immediately left an impression. He won his first Cox Plate as a three-year-old, which directly funded the expansion of Think Big Stud.

So You Think won eight races in total in Australia, including five Group 1s. He would win a further five Group 1 races in Europe, and now stands at the world-renowned Coolmore Stud.

Saintly was purchased as a tried horse by DGR for AUD$100,000 after winning his first race as a two-year-old in 1995. He emerged as a promising three-year-old, winning the Australian Cup in 1996 before a series of defeats to the mighty Octagonal in Sydney.

Saintly won the Cox Plate and the Melbourne Cup in the Spring of 1996 and was crowned Horse of the Year for the 1996-1997 season. The horse was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2017.

Viewed was privately bought by DGR for AUD$50,000 as an unprepared yearling. An unplanned purchase at the time, Viewed was sent to Bart Cummings and won seven races by the end of the 2007-08 season, including the time-honoured Brisbane Cup.

He won the Melbourne Cup at odds of 40/1 in the Spring of 2008. He became the first original topweight in history to win the Caulfield Cup in 2009.

Faint Perfume was bred by Duncan Ramage for Dato Tan Chin Nam and passed in at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale – Book 2 in 2008 and retained to race by Dato. Her grand-dam, Danendri, was bought by DGR for Ananda Krishnan and co-owner Chin Nam for AUD$80,000 in 1995.

Faint Perfume delivered on early Spring promise as a three-year-old and won the VRC Oaks in 2009. She was crowned Champion 3YO Filly in Australia for the 2009-10 season with a career best win in the Storm Queen Stakes in 2010. She was sold as a broodmare for AUD$700,000 in 2016.

DGR was appointed to purchase the first yearlings for the fledgling China Horse Club, and in 2013 bought First Seal for NZD$700,000 at the Karaka Premier Yearling Sale. She won three of her first five races – beating Winx twice – and claimed the Group 1 Flight Stakes in October 2014.

She won five Group races in a 21-start career before retiring to stud. Her first foal was sold to Coolmore for AUD$1.8 million at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in 2020.

The late Norzita sold to DGR for NZD$200,000 at the Karaka Premier Yearling Sale in 2011. The filly was unplaced only twice in her career. She won the Flight Stakes and Vinery Stud Stakes and was placed in a Doncaster Handicap in a six-month stretch. She was crowned Champion 3YO Filly for the 2012/13 season.

Norzita’s breeding exploits have been equally as prolific. Her first foal, Carif is a Stakes winner and was also placed in the Lexus Stakes, Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Chairman’s Handicap. Her second foal—a colt by Fastnet Rock—sold for AUD$660,000 as a yearling. The mare herself made AUD$1,700,000 at the 2019 Inglis Chairman’s Sale.
