Purchased for $200,000 from Little Avondale Stud’s Inglis Easter draft, this filly is by exceptional Group 1 sire Per Incanto from Winter Sky (IRE), an Invincible Spirit half-sister to Transfers, the dam of Group 1 winner Tom Kitten, and stakes winners Va Via and Promotions.
This filly was bred and reared at the famed Little Avondale Stud, a top New Zealand nursery that has bred 41 individual Group 1 winners, including a blast from our past in G1 AJC Derby winner Roman Emperor. Little Avondale proprietor Sam Williams constantly reminds me how “a mistake” saw me miss out on buying eventual Group 1-winning filly Bonham as a yearling in 2019. Bonham is a filly by the same sire as our new filly in Per Incanto.
“Bonham was then sold at the end of her racing career in 2021 for $1.6m. I feel I have regained some ground on Sam, buying this filly, Lot 390, for just $200,000 in 2024 as the Inglis Riverside auditorium was distracted by the presence of the very next horse about to enter the ring Lot 391, the $10m filly from Winx,” Duncan said.
This filly hails from a very deep family with current top performed Group 1-winning members such as TOM KITTEN and IN ITALIAN.
Her dam sires are all champion stallions themselves of the very highest level: 1st dam by Invincible Spirit, 2nd Encosta De Lago and 3rd Danehill.
Per Incanto is one of New Zealand’s leading sires, commanding a fee of NZ$50,000 plus GST. He boasts an excellent strike rate of 66.4% winners to runners and is the sire of 29 individual stakes winners, including boom Group 1-winning sprint sensation Roch ‘N’ Horse and Belclare.
The filly herself possesses great athleticism, which is a critical factor in a running animal. The package is there at a great price to achieve top-level success. Statistics reveal that while Inglis Easter is regarded as the premium yearling sale with a 2024 average price of $425,882, nine Group 1 winners since 2018 have been purchased from Easter for $200,000 or less, including Mizzy ($200k filly) and Exceedance ($180k colt). A year prior, in 2017, Group 1-winning filly Pinot was also purchased for $200,000.
Ownership opportunities are available to race this filly with DGR and top Randwick-based trainer John Sargent. Racing colours are no longer available, but shares remain. Get in touch with Duncan for more information.
