Derby colt bred on the magic Tavistock/Zabeel cross and a brother to The Irishman. Purchased by DGR for NZ$200,000 from Cambridge Stud’s Karaka Book 1 draft to be trained by Peter & Paul Snowden.
Classic style of colt by Tavistock who fits the mould of a top Derby contender. Purchased by DGR for NZ$230,000 from Cambridge Stud’s Book 1 draft.
Trained by John Thompson, Randwick
This colt was one of two Tavistock colts that DGR’s Duncan Ramage was determined to secure at the 2021 Karaka Yearling Sale.
Purchased from the legendary nursery at Cambridge Stud, he was a NZ$230,000 buy for DGR. He passed all the checks and measure from our esteemed team with flying colours, and we are delighted to buy him for the price we did.
The fact that online bidding was in a state of flux when he went through might have added to our ability to buy him at such a good price in conjunction with one of our regular Group One-winning trainers John Thompson.
A typical Classic type of horse, he is by proven Derby sire Tavistock out of the young, well-related Zabeel mare Ziffel.
He is bred on the faultless Tavistock/Zabeel cross that has had phenomenal success with producing top horses across the board. The cross runs at a consistent 17% stakes-winners/runners strike rate for colts and has been responsible for producing the likes of 2020 VRC Derby winner Johnny Get Angry, Hong Kong Horse of the Year Werther, Champion 3YO Colt in Australia Tarzino and Australasian Oaks winner Toffee Tongue.
This colt’s dam is a half-sister to freakish two-year-old filly Amelia’s Dream. She won on debut by nearly ten lengths before blitzing a top field in the G2 Silver Slipper Stakes by 6.3 lengths. Touted as being “the most impressive Silver Slipper winner since Luskin Star” she was the short-priced favourite for the G1 Golden Slipper until an injury curtailed her career and she was retired to stud unbeaten.
This colt’s dam is also a sister to Romantic Time, the dam of 2020 G1 VRC Derby placegetter Young Werther who is also bred on the same cross as this colt.
G1 STC BMW Stakes winner Grand Zulu is also a close relation to this colt. He broke the course record when recording his headline G1 win before being exported to Hong Kong where he continued to race successfully.
This horse is now fully subscribed.
